It’s very exciting to be a first-time homebuyer. Today, I have some advice you should know if you are about to start the process of purchasing your first home.

First of all, hire a buyer’s agent. A buyer’s agent will take the time to sit down with you, go through a consultation, and explain the process and all of the key players involved. They’ll tell you about the lender, title agent, seller agent, home inspector, appraiser, closing agent, and how everything works.

When you find a buyer’s agent you’re comfortable with, you make commitments to each other. The agent commits their time and energy to protect you throughout the process. The agent will pre-inspect homes to give you an idea of the condition of the property before the inspector gets there. They’ll also discuss different financing options you may have.

For example, if you’re buying in a rural development, you may qualify for no money down. You may qualify for Michigan down payment assistance, which gets you ,500 towards the down payment. Certain areas in West Michigan have state funding as well. A buyer’s agent will help you navigate all of your financing options and give you some guidance on where to live.

Finally, your agent will help you separate what you want in a property from what you need in a property. Ultimately, your agent will put you in a new place that you call home.
